They wandered for a time, stories of scuffles and occasional misguided "helping" cropping up in bard's tales indication that he survived well enough.

These adventures aren't always done with his the Ravens, occasionally he goes off alone to visit places and people mortal beings would be in far too much danger to deal with. A chance encounter with a man on a red horse on the road by an old battlefield, or outside a tavern where a brawl's apt to break out isn't that odd a thing... is it?

For those who can reach his home surrounded by lava flows of the ashy wastes, it is a different fortress than it had been under his previous incarnation's ownership. Sprawling and seemingly crumbling ruins at the edges but coming together in to a proper dwelling in the center. Within is dominated by an obsidian floored hall with dramatic lava pools that provide heat and light, the floor below occasionally glowing as it shifts the pattern in itself in places people aren't walking. The throne, for while it isn't anything his farthest-spectrum cousin would likely call such it still is one, at the far end of this main hall is more like half a dragon egg (or the upper skull of one) than a proper chair and there are metal arches in the stone of the walls hung with crimson and black in lieu of proper doors that lead off to other parts of the fortress.

Interspersed throughout the hall, growing up the walls between the doors and covering the floor around the throne are glowing rose blossoms crafted of both Red and Rose's magic.

Just because Red doesn't look to be in residence doesn't mean he won't show up if a visitor comes along.

comments

You could get sent to the colony or executed for impersonating an officer." Malik sighed, even as he grinned and swung himself in to the cabin of their ship. That the apartment they were in be clean, there be something for him to eat when he came back at night and that she not take whatever indiscretions she sought out in to his home. Beyond that he'd left Melissa to her own choices, had not pressed his position on her for anything beyond those base requests.

There had been whispers, and were still murmurs, about the couple in the early weeks. How Malik did not sleep in the same bed as her even when he did leave the records and runnings of the Brotherhood in his office for a more comfortable rest. How it was a pity that he was now in something so seemingly loveless because of his adherence to duty. The whispers had lost their venomous hiss for the most part, but most of Masyaf was still cool towards the foreign woman.

It was starting to cool in to winter at last, a chill in the morning air sending the town scurrying for warmer blankets and braziers before snow set in.

Training did not stop though, and it is barely after the sun has gotten above the walls when Malik actually joins the young men and instructor out on the training ring for once. He's still in the black robes of his rank, leaning on the fencing and watching the beginning of training.

A murmer's gone through the fortress, a crowd slowly forming up to watch the proceedings. At least one of the other ladies have told Melissa she should come see her husband perform. It's rare that Rauf can get Malik out of the heavy workload of being Altair's second long enough to pick up a sword outside of his spars with the Mentor.

"Alright, who wants to bet on who will win and how fast?" Rauf grinned, gesturing at the gathered novices and sundry.

comments

It was how these things went when he was wandering, and he rarely expected to find anyone awake at the ends of trails only he could really follow.

Find he did though, and the boy in the basement was far from the typical sort. With Don Corneo gone, there was really only one other person who was a decent information broker in this rubble-heap of a city.

Not that Reno missed Don Corneo, not by a long-shot. Besides, Malik wasn't nearly as annoying -- or as much of a creepy, perverted eyesore. No, the dark-skinned man made for a much more appealing visit.

Reno made his way to the hole-in-the-wall bar that he knew Malik, and his associates, frequented. Talking to the boss himself would be ideal, but Reno was open to alternatives. Luckily, he didn't have to change plans. At the back corner, his regular table, was the man the Turk was looking for, with full view of the room and access to at least two escape routes. Reno couldn't have picked a better spot himself. He made his way through the tables and bodies to slip into the seat across from Malik, as rude as it might be without invitation.

"Hey."

comments

Malik had been in America for some decades, long enough to have changed identities and locations a few times. He'd been watching the Vampires for longer, hadn't really stopped watching them or helping out where and when he could (which became more and more 'when he felt like' as the centuries wore on.).

He sat contentedly on a large boulder, watching the water and idly sipping from a travel mug that most definitely did not contain coffee as he waited for Cesare. Malik suspected that the reaction would be rather interesting when his... son realized exactly who it was sitting on a beach very much so not dead and actually looking to make contact with the rest of the bloodsucking world.

comments

She mutters, looking around at the slowly gathering crowd with confusion from where she sits in a splay of legs and fabric.

B:

Aqua hadn't expected to step out of the Realm of Darkness and in to the white halls of Castle Oblivion, and it has her reeling for a moment before she recovers.

There are people here she realizes, the magic of the castle resonating with her own and that of the heavy keyblade that appears in her hand with a flash of light. For those paying attention, the visible flicker of change in the crests on the walls is brief but simultaneous throughout the entire building.

She steps forward with authority down the halls, doors opening before her even without the cards required by most to navigate the place.

For those who can sense it, it's blatantly apparent that a powerful keyblade wielder is in the building and wandering free in the lower levels.

C: choose your own!

comments

Some jobs he did were more on the up-and-up than others, some jobs he didn't have to change his shirt before going home and some he did.

He'd finished a job, one not requiring a clean shirt afterwards, and had stopped at one of the clubs on the way home as he was occasionally wont to do. Especially if one of the shows from broadway had come to town; he had friends in some of the shows, from back Before.

He watched the dancers from a chair, hiding his judgement on their footwork behind sips from his glass. Maybe he was just getting old, he didn't understand some of these newer dances that were getting around.

"You should get out there and show them how to do it, Kozzy." The woman seated beside him chuckled, green and amber beads glittering as she waved. Her accent was french, and she still wore her hair long. She was a stage actress, and an old friend of his deceased wife.

"It's Pitch, here." He corrected.

"La, americans and their inability to say names, ouais! There is your little friend. What a darling thing, when will you be inviting her to tea with us?" She smiled, watching a petite woman enter with her signature feathered headdress.

"I have not even introduced the two of you and you are already trying to play matchmaker, Emilie you will be the death of me." He sighed, shaking his head.

"Tch, who said I was matchmaking." She pouted, "You're too frightening here in the states for that, mister bogeyman."

comments

It hadn't been somewhere she'd thought she'd have settled down but... she had, there was darkness here that needed fighting and people she'd grown fond of.

She'd changed her clothing to a degree to fit in a bit better, though there was no blending in completely. There's no hiding the way she moves after years of training and fighting or the color of her hair.

It was after closing, night having fallen bringing a light rain with it, and Aqua was putting tables and chairs back in order for the morning and peering a bit at some of the photographs and whatnot on the walls as she worked.

"Tifa? Can I...ask you something?" She said, noticing the other woman returning to the front of the building.

comments

It wasn't quite abandoned, but certainly not inhabited at the moment.

Until Pitch peeled the two of them from a dense patch of shadows beneath the ferris wheel.

"Now... let's see if we can't send the guards in to a gibbering panic over rides starting themselves and the like." He grinned, "They've had a few people die on these things... not following safety measures and that..."

comments

The Sorceress was a target they couldn't deal with right now, but if nothing else, having someone as skilled as Seira on their side would be useful in the long run.

So she deviated from the orders. It was suicide to try and attack Edea directly, anyone would see that and she'd likely have to go through Seira first anyway.

So she did, but not in the sense that anyone might have expected. She knew Seira's tactics as well as her own and taking the other woman down and off the float to the ground proved difficult but not impossible.

And then the main focus was escape.

By the time they were out of the city and headed for what should be a safe place, Seira was starting to wake up.

comments
